Even though I haven't written much about him, I'm constantly thinking about Willis. He definitely doesn't get enough love in the Digimon fandom. I've been developing his character for about a year now, and I've settled on a few characteristics:

- He's smart, incredibly so. At least as smart as Koushiro on a "school facts" level, although he doesn't take his education seriously; if he applied himself, he'd surpass him. And he matches Ken in creativity and cunning, though again, he doesn't have interest in applying himself. He has a casual approach to learning, to the point where he denies, even hides, how smart he really is.
- He's probably bi, though he deliberately acts asexual. Mimi thinks that he's gay, and he does have an obsession with being together with Daisuke, but he doesn't want his parents to pigeon-hole him into a sexuality.
- He hates his parents and hates himself for hating them. He tries to be neutral in everything he does in order to rebel against them (doing only so-so in school, working only part-time, hanging out with models but deliberately ignoring their beauty, etc) so that he won't accomplish or fail anything; he hates how his dislike of them can be construed as typical teenage angst.
- He resents and is amused by (what he sees as) Mimi's misinterpretation of him. Even though she's his only friend, he constantly underestimates her and her intelligence and dismisses any comments she makes about him.
- He's attracted to Ken even though he blames the other boy of stealing Daisuke. Willis secretly believes that he should have been the final member of the Chosen Children, and that Ken is a poor substitution.

Willis. He's awesome.

Fandom: Digimon
Pairing: Motomiya Daisuke/Ichijouji Ken
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: PG13 for suggestiveness, but there's nothing explicit
Author's Notes: Mild Digimon spoils. Sorry this took so damn long! First I forgot that I claimed this couple, and then once I stopped being a slacker, life whacked me off the side of the head with a big ol' bag of responsibilities. But I'm finally done! Rejoice!

#01 - Motion
They call him The Rocket and the title is the goddamn truth; Daisuke watches from the bleachers and practically salivates as Ichijouji Ken flashes by.

Seeing you squirm is so delicious! )

#21 - Fool
"He stood at the wrong street corner for three hours," Ken explains to his baffled mother as he dragged a drenched and dripping, practically delirious Daisuke into the apartment; Daisuke's knight in shiny armor froze at the bathroom, suddenly paralyzed as his valor retreated -

#22 - Mad
Daisuke crushes a frigid snowball down Ken's shirt (fingers briefly touching the warm, silk skin), and ken retaliates with a full-body take down; the roll down the hill in hysterics, wet and freezing and boiling inside and this is madness (this is love!).

#23 - Child

#24 - Now

#25 - Shadow
He visits later, long after his parents have come, cleaned, and gone, expecting his brother's grave to be abandoned: Daisuke's there, defiantly holding wilted flowers; they stand in the shadow of the tomb until the sun sets and the shadow spreads into night.

#35 - Sudden
Blood is rushing so quickly through his races that it practically

#36 - Stop
Footsteps on the gravel, heaving breaths pounding a rhythm through the air, cries from the gawkers below, then absolute silence as Motomiya flies through the air and wraps his arms around the Kaiser's waist.

#37 - Time
The sphinx guarding the entrance, Ken stands at his door to hear Daisuke's list, spilt frantically between gasping breaths: he game went into overtime and he couldn't miss the final goal, the bus was delayed and the he got on the wrong one, the newest issue of Action and Sports Manga with the latest episode of Super Prince Baseball Star came out, and so its totally not his fault that he's late and he's super sorry and is there any way he can make up for it?

#38 - Wash
His mother hovered at the bathroom door, but the Kaiser would not be disturbed; he scrubbed at the blood on his pants for hours, until his hands were raw and the water turned icy - out, out damn spot!
jaebility: (Default)
#30 - Ghost
It must be Osamu's spirit that Daisuke sees in the Kaiser; the Ken he knows could never be so cruel.

Daisuke squeezes Ken's cold hands tightly, almost painfully, as if he could exorcise Osamu's spirit through pure force.

#31 - Book
Daisuke's hand inches closer and closer, a ninja sneaking toward his prey; "Daisuke, I'm trying to read," are Ken's last words before he's attacked and defeated.

#32 - Eye
Daisuke grabs the Kaiser's shirt and draws his fist back again as the glasses slide off his opponent's face; a pair of icy violet eyes glare up at him, stunning him effectively as any attack.

#33 - Never
Willis crumples the letter and throws it wrathfully at the trash can, earning an odd look from a puzzled Mimi who glances down again at the photograph: "I think Ken and Dai-chan are sweet together."

#34 - Sing
Ishida's voice slices through the crowd's drone, and his lyrics pierce into Ken's thoughts against his will; for the blond to understand is simply an unbearable insult, but his comprehension is undeniable.

One-liners, a la [livejournal.com profile] buttonsandblows.

Digimon
Willis comes from America, all smiles and awful New York accent, and embraces Ken like a brother or friendly dog; Ken pulls away, half amused and half annoyed, but not before Willis can breath in his ear, "Menàge ou folie à trois?"

There's a slyness in Willis' insouciance that only Ken seems to notice; it's a passing, flickering thing, but irksome enough that Ken excuses himself early and refuses to be coaxed back to the party.

Author's Notes: I'm messing quite a bit with the storyline of Digimon 02; take that, canon! He accepted me with such ease, Daisuke did. A bit of a fuss in the beginning, but two days later he wept in front of me, crying for the pain that he imagined he'd be putting me through. I was a stupid kid, all bravado and no balls, and I brushed off his devotion with a smart-alect remark.

But now, sitting at a Chinese restaurant near Lincoln Center, watching the couples and the groups and the families parade past the big glass windows, I remember that adventure and the friendship that he offered me.

I should have convinced my mother to let me study in Japan. Or I should have made more money when I had apply time to do so. Or I should have run away, before responsibilities and duties bound me to Manhattan. I should have been born in Tokyo instead of South Dakota.

I sighed and slurped at my noodles. Maybe I could have been the one who'd pair up with Daisuke, instead of the psychopath Ken. Our souls would have melded, or done whatever the hell his and Ken's had done. I could have been the final member of the Chosen Children, instead of an oddity across the ocean.

The Willis identity came with few benefits.

Walking with Daisuke was something like taking a poorly trained dog out for some exercise. He did not stay on the left side of the sidewalk, he often bumped into unforgiving people, he yelled loud and generally unfunny things at inopportune times, and he walked through every puddle he could find, splashing grime and mud on unfortunate bystanders.

Takeru considered himself to be a very nice young man, and had he ever made a list of his qualities, "kind" would have been number one. After that would probably be "understanding," then perhaps "easy-going," or maybe "good listener." Thus, Daisuke's obnoxious whoops were not annoying to him at all. Daisuke's constant tugs and yanks on Takeru's backpack were endeering, not a worthy cause of murder. And he definately thought that Daisuke's nonstop inane chattering was an adorable idiosyncrasy.

The Kaiser's lips were warm and surprisingly soft - Willis was expecting his torture to involve blood and tears, not cherry kisses and shy embraces. He pulled back, away from temptation, however, fiercly determined to resist the Kaiser and beat him in his game.

The Kaiser was attempting to confuse him; Willis had correctly identified the megalomanic streak within Ken Ichijouji's genius and had prepared before his imprisonment for a battle of intellect against the boy. The Kaiser wanted to enslave him - sexual domination was apparently one method control that the Kaiser was willing to explore.

"Sorry, not a fag." Delibrately crude, Willis grinned and shook his head patronizingly. "Don't swing that way." He had been trying to resist using pronouns in reference to himself, distancing himself from the Kaiser in all possible ways. The wall he was forming would be his only line of defense when Ken attacked. Here was where Daisuke had failed - he had given up a piece of himself and Ken had exploited it and pulled until all of Daisuke had crumbled.

The Kaiser's dark eyes narrowed and he stpped backwards, deeper into the shadows of the chamber. "You prefer violent rape?"

Swallowing hard, Willis prayed that he'd last longer than the others. A nervous flicker of hope, more a question than a solution, weaved through his head - his entire being was based in a different world than the other Chosen Children. He was an alien in all things - the rules of Ken's game (and his world) didn't apply to him.

An ephiphany.

That was his ace in his sleeve.

Willis couldn't surpress his laughter.
jaebility: (taichi x yamato)
The Kaiser was a serpent, all silk and fangs.

Willis wondered at first if the kid was just insane, suffering from intense delusions of grandeur and megalomania, or maybe some strange form of manic depression, but it didn't take long for his smirking curiousity to change to wonder. He was as smart as he boasted. His plan was infallible. Maybe crazy, but a crazy genius.

Willis shifted in his seat and flexed his cramping arms. The handcuffs at his wrists were heavy and cold and inescapable - the Kaiser had taken no chances. Willis sighed and sighed again and stretched his legs. "Bored," he announced at last, satisfied when the Kaiser turned towards him, "And thirsty. And I need to piss. That's somewhat odd, wouldn't you say? You'd think that, like, they'd nullify each other or something."

The Kaiser grinned (cat-like) and wagged a be-gloved finger. "Are all Americans this crass? Come now, my dear Willis, certainly you're smarter than that."

"Say what?" Willis looked down at his feet to hide the blush of shame that rushed to his cheeks. "Damn Japs, didn't you learn anything in World War Two? Or do we need to bomb the shit out of you again?"

"Willis, you are acting decidedly out of character." The Kaiser reclined in his chair and lazily watched his prisoner. "I've investigated you thoroughly and I know that you're merely acting like this to get a rise our of me. A simple ruse, occasionally effective with lesser minds, and thus useless on me." His long fingers tapped on the keyboard of the Kaiser's massive computer and a file opened: Willis Puller. "You have a laudable IQ, Willis, and your education is most impressive. To your friends and family you're polite, well-spoken, and a fascinating orator. The only complaint anyone can make is that you're often too quiet and thoughtful - you can be somewhat aloof."

"Yeah, well, maybe if you uncuff me I'll be more pleasant."

"Pleasantry has nothing to do with it." The Kaiser leaned forward, his dark eyes intense. "The Willis I have currently bound and chained is practically the very opposite of the boy I have profiled." With a snarl of disgust he jumped to his feet and paced around his throne, his footsteps loud and violent. "You, the only Chosen who could make a suitable opponent for me, are acting like an idiotic-"

A long, painful pause.

The Kaiser began to chuckle. "You got me!" He gasped. "I fell blindly into that trap!" The giggles grew louder until the Kaiser screamed with laughter.

No question now: the Kasier was mad.

It seemed to Ken that Osamu had been completely drained of blood; his cheeks, lips, and hands were the pale yellow of old book pages and looked colder than snow. Ken puzzled over this change, then remembered, shuddering, all the blood that he had seen after the crash. On the car, on the pavement, on the grass... Osamu apparently had been bled dry. Was that what caused death? No more blood? Ken tugged at Mother's sleeve to ask her, but she ignored him as she cried. He remained silent for the funeral's duration.
jaebility: (taichi x yamato)
It hadn't been completely Miyako's idea, but Daisuke had to concede that without her help, his plan wouldn't have gotten off the ground. It was with her long, talented fingers and her devious and quick wit that he was able to make the change from regular old Daisuke to Daisuke! superboy of wonder and awesome.

Last year Ken had made the first move and had pressed a bouquet of pink roses with a gift card to Daisuke's favorite music store nestled deep inside the flowers. Of course Daisuke had been thankful, but still he cursed Ken for stealing Valentine's Day. He had to wait for White Day to return the favor and Daisuke had always hated waiting. This year, however, Daisuke was determined to give Ken his present before Ken beat him to it.

It couldn't be any stupid gift, though. It had to be something so incredible that Ken would swoon and maybe, if Daisuke was lucky, admit defeat to Daisuke's superior intellect. Naturally the latter victory was much less important than making Ken happy, but Daisuke couldn't deny that he enjoyed competing with the gorgeous Ichijoiji. Besides, sometime's his boyfriend needed to be stirred up a little, for his own good.

So on February 14th, he invited Ken over for dinner (at least, that's what the invitation said). He put the finishing touches on the present, thanked Miyako (who was miles away on a date with Hikari, but hey, it's the thought that counts), and waited patiently for Ken to arrive.

Ken, punctual as always, knocked on the door precisely at the allotted time. He had indulged Daisuke's strange request; it was simply to hard to deny Daisuke anything. With his brown eyes big and his lower lip stuck out in a pout, Daisuke could charm the moon from the sky. Thus when Daisuke had presented him with a prim envelope, Ken had obliged him and followed the directions. To Ken: Come to my place at 6pm. Come alone. And don't bring any Valentine's Day presents or else. Love, Your Secret Admirer. Ken had been confused with the signature, but sometimes it was easier to simply accept Daisuke's idiosyncrasies than to question them.

After a handful of seconds passed, Ken knocked again. From inside he could hear the heavy sound of someone running. He grinned and shook his head. Trust Daisuke to be late to his own party. "Daisuke?" He called as he rapped a third time upon the door, "Open up. It's five past six already."

Ken heard more thumping footsteps and finally a click as the lock was unbolted. The door flung open and Ken stared with mouth agape at what welcomed him.

Daisuke's hair had been dyed a bright pink. More surprisingly, however, he was naked with the exception of what looked to be paper which was wrapped around him from the knees to the waist. The ensemble was tied with a red ribbon bow.

Ken gaped. And then boggled. Then he gawked, ogled, and leered.

Daisuke grinned, immensely pleased with himself. Coyly he wiggled his hips, a movement which brought a delightfully attractive flush to Ken's cheeks. "Happy Valentine's Day, Ken!" He exclaimed before leaning forward to kiss his boyfriend. "Like it?"

"Dai-" Ken swallowed hard and tore his eyes away from the very inappropiate place at which they had previously been fixed. "Dai-"

"Get it? I'm like the roses you gave me last year! See? I dyed my hair." He laughed suddenly and pulled Ken inside the apartment. "I dyed all my hair," he confided with a wink, "And just like you put a second gift for me in the roses, there's something for you nestled inside the pink-"

Ken slammed the door behind them.

Yagami Taichi had always been somewhat strange. He was loud, talented, flirty, athletic, stubborn, caring, outragious, and was the owner of the biggest head of hair in school. He was liked well enough by his fellow student; girls used him as an example when they tested their friends - "Who'd you rather date? Nakatomi Hiroshi or Yagami Taichi?" and boys invited him to sleepovers ("Do you think Sae would rather date Taichi or Hiroshi?"). Teachers knew that he could be trouble, especially when there were debates in class, but he did his homework on time and was the star of the soccer team so he was easily forgiven for any missteps. He was worshipped by Motomiya Daisuke, an adorable monster who was a few years his junior, and admired by students of the male and female persuasion alike.

He had brown eyes and brown hair and a brown complexion - often called golden and sun-kissed by those admirers with less-than-pure intentions. After school he'd run amuck on the soccer field and then go home to relax in a pair of boxer-shorts and no shirt until his sister returned and hollered at him.

All in all, he had a good life. A damn good life, indeed.

He didn't know why he chose to mess it up so utterly and completely, that brisk October day. It probably had something to do the way the sun was shining, or maybe the way that the leaves rustled in the trees. Or maybe, and this realization, this nirvana, came in mid kiss, maybe it was because the one thing he was missing in his life was a sexy blond with blue eyes. And a sexy blond with blue eyes is always worth the pain.
