I have three major complaints about DW so far: too few userpics (even with a paid account) and too few crossposting accounts thingers, and butt-ugly journal themes so far. The userpic limitations annoy me; I'm used ot having over 200 userpics at IJ. How am I going to whittle those down to a measly 75 (assuming I buy an account here)? My interests in the form of 100x100 icons are enormous! I need dozens of Phoenix Wright icons, oodles of Yuffie icons, tons of Digimon icons.

LAME, you guys, LAME.

I wish IJ wasn't such a wasteland. My FL over there is primarily feeds; everyone seems to have gone back to LJ or dropped blogging altogether.

1.) I'm not sure by what you mean by too few crossposting thingers; I can crosspost to IJ and LJ from DW. You add more than two accounts, but I've only got those two.


2.) Well, this is closed beta, and the S2 Core2 system hasn't had it's coming out party yet. But if you want to have a pretty journal now, you have to do a pretend upgrade. http://www.dreamwidth.org/misc/beta
I have links I can give you to prettify your account until the S2 Core2 gets out of the 'Dev-closet'.

3.) The Paid account, such as Premium has a higher level of icon allowances. I know that's isn't like Insane Journal, but, IJ is seriously geared toward fandoms in a way others maybe aren't.

Again, DW is still in closed beta, and things can change; especially over the course of a year.

1) Since I'm not a paid user, I only get one. I'm griping about that because it seems that the major perk of DW is being to crosspost to multiple journals. Also I like to gripe.

2) I think that there'll definitely be more choices in the future, it's just that the starting ones are so icky. The other journal sites have far better default journal designs.

3) My precious, precious icons! Icons can't take up too much server space, can they? Even JF gives you 10 icons to start with.

I'm planning on sticking around; these were just my first impressions of DW.

Well, until April 30th, you can 'upgrade' into a paid account:

This is because they are in Beta, and need to test all kinds of things, including the journal importer, (which imports your icons as well as entries) and the cross-posting utility.

All accounts expire roughly by May 1st, so that people who want to pay for an account, can simply renew, and those that want to stay with a free account, can. You can stop by the wiki for official communities to request extra features like more icon space, or go to the IRC: irc://irc.dwscoalition.org/dw

and you can define 'other'. Once you've added the other services, you will have a checkbox on your web post form for the option to cross post to whatever service you've added. Then you can check all or just one of the services you've added.

As far as I can tell, regular users only have one crossposting ability, though. Unless I misunderstood the set-up.

You have a DW? I want one so bad. The tagging system looks so awesome. nathimus showed me hers.

And I can deal with not having a lot of icons. I've only got 15 here and 70+ at IJ. I just rotate them out a lot. But 75 with a paid account is kind of lame :/

IJ's status does make me sad. I'd love for it to pick up and I'd go back to being on there full time. :/

I've been bad with IJ. :/ I can remember to use it for one community but not reading because no one else is really posting over there either.
