As soon as I stepped into my apartment I knew that there was Something Wrong. The door had been locked, the lights were on, as I had left them, but that was a chill in the atmosphere and an oppressive silence that weighed like herculian load on my shaking shoulders. I unholstered my gun and crept slowly across the wall. I knew which floorboards would let me slide by without a complaint so my journey towards the back of the apartment was done without a single sound.

I turned the corner, my gun sticking out like a fucking erect dick.
