It made him sick to see her cling to him like that. Gods, she was beautiful, her hair dark like blood against her pale face. And she, breathtaking and perfect, hung onto him, him!, as if her life depended on it. Link's heart pounded against his ribs so hard that it hurt when he breathed. Fire and ice, that's what she was. She was pure and good and so innocent, Link swallowed hard against a lump in his throat, and he, the bastard, had taken her.

The castle was silent, it's air still and reaking of death. Fittingly it was had turned into a tomb: dead bodies littered the stairwells that Link had climbed, fallen trees floated in the moat the Link had crossed, and now here, in the throne room, he faced a Demon.

Ganondorf smiled and stroked Malon's hair, enjoying the hero's anger. Link had never been able to disguise his feelings and his disgust was clear upon his face. Indulgently the King brushed his lips across her albaster forehead and she writhed against him wantonly. He large hands pulled her lithe body harder against him and she moaned and sighed in response. For a moment it seemed as if they had forgotten the other man in the room, as if they were completely alone. Ganondorf tipped Malon's chin upwards and crushed her lips against his.

The ordeal was overwhelming. Link clenched his hands into fists and then drew his sword, "I'll kill you for this."

Ganondorf's laugh resounded throught empty hall and the castle's walls trembled. "Fool. Do you think I raped her? Imagine that, Link. She must have screamed for mercy... But why would I show her sympathy? No, I ripped her apart until she covered my bed with her blood." His gold eyes glittered in the fading light and then narrowed suddenly. With a quick, violent thrust he pushed Malon towards Link, "Take the wench."

Malon's long legs tangled in her gown with with a short cry she fell, the dress pooling around her as she hit the cold marble floor. Link scrambed to her side and pulled her up and into his arms.

"I'm going to get you out of here, Malon," he swore as he stood. Ganondorf hadn't moved but Link pointed his sword at him as he shielded Malon behind him.

"Link," Malon's soft voice was sad, "Link please, let me go."

"Eh?" The hero turned slowly, his blue eyes narrow with confusion. The sword dropped from his hand and clanged like thunder against the broken tiles at his feet. The arm that had been protecting her lowered as well, "What, Malon?"

Before he could act, Malon brushed past him and ran to Ganondorf, her crimson hair streaming behind her. Her heels pounded on the floor and Link's heart thumped in response. Ganondorf outstretched a hand to her and then pulled her towards him.

Malon, wrapped securely in Ganondorf's black cape, stared gravel at Link. "I chose him, Link. I came to him out of my own free will."

Link choked on his words. "You... chose?" He took a single step forward and stopped. Again his emotions raced across his face: anger, sadness, confusion, then realization. In a single fluid moment he picked up his sword and sheathed it, his head lowered in defeat. "I respect your decision, Malon," he said, his voice hollow, "But I'll be back. And when I return I'll kill him, and your love won't save him then."
