After Reading Dorian Gray and historic romance novels

"Women are much like children," Lord Pippenworth said lazily as he sipped his cherry, "They are to be cuddled and coddled and never trusted with matches." He chuckled at what he thought was wit and dapped at his lips with his napkin. "Men are not only a different sex but an entirely different race."

Ethan had been watching Miss Greyscale with increasing interest and now that she was clenching her teeth in anger and pulling her napkin until he fancied he could see the threads breaking she was all the more fasinating.

"I beg your pardon, my Lord, but I couldn't disagree more." Juila Greyscale's eyes were practically blazing with anger and she struggled to keep herself in check. "If women are any less intelligent then men then it is simply because we aren't given a chance at education as you are. Our capacity to learn is not harbored by our gender but I think, instead, enhanced!"

"Why is that, Miss Greyscale?" Ethan asked, eager to keep the argument going.

Julia gave Pippenworth a scathing look. "To be a man is to be a dog." She lifted her nose in the air and tossed her head. "As you have so perfectly proven this evening, Lord Pipworder."

Pippenworth's shock kept him silent. His mouth opened and closed like a gaping fish and his round cheeks were darker than Julia's.

She took advantage of his surprise and launched further into the debate. "I have had the honor and pleasure to be schooled in many of the same subjects a gentlemen would participate in and never has my feminity interfered with my learning. Plato would agree," she could resist bringing her scholarly knowledge into the affair, "That both genders are equal in our abilities and that it is only the lack of opertunity that makes women the "lesser" of the two sexes."

"You have read Plato?" Even more intriqued, Ethan leaned in towards the young woman.

"Yes, in its original text." She answered proudly.

Lord Pippenworth found his voice. "You can read Latin?!"

Julia's dark blue eyes narrowed and she glared at the lord with a look that would freeze the blood of a less foolish man. "Plato wrote in Greek." Even more insulted she rose from the table and threw her napkin onto her plate. "Excuse me but I must retire before "fragile" mind is overloaded. Good day."

"You must be easy on my brother," Ethan caught up with the outraged Miss Greyscale and cupped her elbow to stear her deeper into the gardens. "I fear that he has never met a woman of your... caliber before."

In spite of her blush the young woman laughed softly and answer with a smile. "That is an insult to my gender, good sir," she teased, "But a compliament to myself. I hope that while your opinion of womenfolk will rise," her smile broadened, "That you will continue to have a favorable view of me."

"Oh, I doubt that I shall ever stop thinking highly of you, Miss Greyscale," Ethan replied with a chuckled, enjoying her flirtatious side as much as her intelligent one. "You are an extraordinary person." He cupped her chin and tilted her face up to his. "And I would like to be able to know you even better."
