I touched the blob experimentally and it wiggled and flopped onto its side. "Hmm," I said as I poked at it again, "Now, what is this?"

"Beats the hell out of me." Ast shrugged his heavy shoulders, his expression one of long suffering. "Cal made it."

"He shouldn't be allowed to make shit like this." The blob stuck onto my fingers and I pulled it off with a sucking noise. "Lem should put a stop to it."

"Yeah, well, you try talking reason to that madman."

I wiped my hand on my pants before grabbing my jacket. "I wish Lem would give me a chance. I'd rather take on Cal then another damn immegrint. Anyway," I waved at Ast, "I'll see you later. I'm off work in a few minutes."

Ast's dark eyes narrowed. "Lucky bastard. How come you get off early and I'm stuck here evaluting blobs?"

I didn't have an answer so I flipped him off and closed the door behind me.
